Overview of Karanji Lake Nature Park – Bird Sanctuary

Karanji Lake, also called Fountain Lake, is a beautifully restored urban lake in Mysore, Karnataka.

Birdlife & Avian Attractions

Diverse Avifauna: Home to over 147 species of resident and migratory birds including grey pelicans, painted storks, Asian openbill storks, herons, ibises, egrets, sandpipers, parakeets, warblers, sunbirds, drongos, and more.

Aviary: India's largest walk-through aviary, measuring approximately 20 m high × 60 m long × 40–50 m wide, housing exotic birds like hornbills, peacocks, white peacocks, turkeys, black swans, cranes, macaws, toucans, pheasants, and flamingos—often connected to a panoramic viewing tower inside.

Watchtower: A 10-metre-tall platform offers an excellent vantage point to observe flocks in their natural habitat.

Exciting Update: Penguin Park Coming Soon!

Karanji Lake is set to become home to South India’s first Penguin Park, with plans to transform a stalled aquarium into a climate-controlled habitat for 4–5 pairs of penguins. This is expected to be a major new attraction under development.
